Begoña Gómez – wife of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez – ended her contract with IE University’s Africa Center to move onto a different career path. She is set to start at Complutense University of Madrid as co-director of the new Master’s in Public and Private Fundraising for Non-Profit-Organizations in February next year.
In 2018, IE University launched the IE Africa Center. According to its website, it aims to “promote an African-centric view of both modernity and the future” that educates aspiring executives, leaders, and entrepreneurs on African culture and history. Since December 2018, Gómez has been the Center’s director, working on social development projects in Ghana, Ethiopia and South Africa. IE has confirmed to Madrid-based newspaper ABC that Gómez left her position “some time ago” this year to move onto a different career venture.
Now, former Head of Programs and Partnerships Eniola Harrison has replaced Gómez as the Africa Center’s director. Before embarking on a professional path at IE, she founded Brussels-based HdH Consulting & Services, and co-founded ACW International. ACW connects Africa-focused PR and communications experts worldwide, hosting the annual AfricaCommsWeek, a meeting point for communications experts on the topic of Africa’s economic transformation. Harrison also holds a Master’s in IE’s Corporate Communication degree.
