May comes to a close in Segovia: What has been happening at IE?

Latest

As the academic year ends, so do events hosted by IE, our student body, and Campus Life. So, what has been going on?

Here is a recap of the last month of this academic year in Segovia.

May Finale at the IE Creativity Center

The official closing at Segovia’s Creativity Centre, The Finale: Social Mingling, Outdoors Fun & Farewell, happened Friday, 19 May.

CASA is a festival dedicated to embracing people’s diversity and feeling like people are at home, ‘in their element,’ hence its name.

The Music Club performed, food and drinks were provided, and guests could participate in a ping pong game while the Art Club exhibited their work.

I spoke with Mario Sans, a first-year LLB BIR student who attended the event. This is what he had to say:

“It was a beautiful evening where students could enjoy the nice spring weather and relax before the last week of exams. It was an incredible goodbye.”

PPLE Talks – The BIG Finale

The PPLE talks were an initiative from the PPLE Society: a series of sessions with professor Oscar Martinez Tapia meant to improve public speaking and presentation skills, like an IE Ted Talk.

The finale happened Friday, 19 May, when the five finalists presented their topics.

Mario expressed that the PPLE talks were a “great opportunity to see the amazing talent and ideas worth spreading that our ideas have. An initiative that deserves more visibility and attention as it has great potential.”

I also spoke to  Claudia Monzón, a first-year PPLE student. She shared her opinions on the events:

“The idea was very good and exciting. I loved that they allowed us to create our own Ted Talk, to be able to practice public speaking skills, and also talk about something that interests us and we like, and to be able to educate people about that topic.

However, [..] many people didn’t, [unfortunately] know the event was happening. But well, in general, it was a good event and a good idea.”

Design Expo

As the academic calendar ended, the BID and BBA BID students were allowed to present their work to the community in the Design Studio.

Second-year students also displayed their work by the entrance for product design. You might have seen it! It filled the campus with vibrant and exciting works, adding more life to the Segovia campus entrance.

I spoke with Jimena Pajaron, a first-year LLB BIR student that attended, and she said: “It was great! All the projects were well done, and you could tell many hours had gone into them.”

Segovia students have been joining events in Segovia and Madrid, participating in the IE World Cup while attending Michael Sande’s Remaining Justice session and the talk with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Research Scientist Mo Bavarian.

Alas, Segovia has a special place in IE students’ hearts, so, despite the stress of exams season, Segovia has been able to host some beautiful and entertaining events.
