By Raquel Hazeu from IE SDG Club Madrid.
Amidst a crisis, the instinctive reaction is to hit the pause button: to put everything on hold and push projects, initiatives and ideas to the background until the crisis is resolved.
However, in the words of Benjamin Disraeli,
“The secret of success is constancy to purpose.”
We should be pragmatic and realistic, but we must also remain proactive and committed. For this reason, from the SDG Club Madrid, we wanted to remind each of you of the goals that we are working together to achieve by launching a campaign this Friday 10th of April named #MySdgOurCause.

How does the campaign work?
The campaign will start off with the videos of our team of coordinators and other SDG board members, in which they will each answer three questions:
- What is the SDG that you feel the most identified with and Why?
- What is a shocking fact about your SDG?
- How are you trying to make an impact?
Mention 3 or more people using the hashtag #MySdgOurCause
Each of these questions are answered in 15 seconds each, in order to be uploaded to Instagram, and will be posted on our account with the hashtag #MySdgOurCause. In this way, we hope to raise awareness and remind ourselves of the importance of working towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. In the COVID-19 crisis, they have acquired a particular meaning:
- Goals 1 and 2, no poverty and hunger, means making sure that basic needs are covered despite the current supply shock.
- Goal 3, good health and well being, means supporting hospitals and doctors that are working to protect us.
- Goal 4, quality education, means ensuring that online teaching models remain accessible to all and serve their purpose.
- Goal 5, gender equality, means providing protection to the heightened risks of domestic violence during confinement.
- Goal 7, affordable and clean energy, means rethinking how to reduce consumption in the household and become more sustainable.
- Goal 17, partnerships, means international and domestic cooperation to overcome COVID-19.
These are just some examples, as all 17 goals remain increasingly relevant. We must all continue to contribute to the extent that we still can from our homes, through donations, through citizen initiatives or through digital platforms and applications.
During the next few weeks, we hope to receive videos from you! If you want to participate, send a direct message to our Instagram account @sdgclubmadrid with your 15-second videos or post them on your story tagging us!
