Last week, Segovia’s historic streets hosted an event unlike anything they’ve seen before. Far from medieval fairs and folkloric dances, the city was now home to a much trendier festival: The Burger Fest.
Once considered a fast-food staple, burgers have evolved into sophisticated creations, with chefs adding artisanal touches to what was once a humble dish. As the dish became popular, its culture took off in Spain in recent years. Now, after inspiration from Madrid or Barcelona, the gastronomical revolution has finally arrived in Segovia.
So What Happened?
From the 10th to the 13th of October, Paseo del Salón, right in the heart of the city, would welcome ten food trucks from all over Spain, serving up some of the best gourmet burgers in the country. Although a day late because of the weather conditions, the first edition of the Burger Fest was still a complete success.
The event featured a lineup of some of Spain’s awarded burgers, each offering its own twist on a classic. From juicy beef patties to plant-based alternatives, there was something for every palate.
One stand out truck was Hamburguesería DEMO, a Madrid-based food truck that has been awarded with several mentions and honors for its creative combinations and the quality of their products. Using premium Riaño meat and artisanal bread, this truck was always crowded, with a steady line of customers eagerly awaiting their delicious bites. Their burger of the month, “La Perfecta” contained their iconic beef pattie, truffle-mayo, bourbon barbecue sauce, bacon, and a mix of 2 cheeses; an explosion of flavors that was clearly a fan favorite.
Other quite innovative options were also presented, like the Korean inspired burger created by Burger Lab and the multiple truffle featured burgers by restaurants like San García Summer Bar and Buey Vuelvo.
As for the veggie options, the event counted with the participation of Yummy Burger, who offered plant based ingredients that helped include diversity into the festival. They satisfied the on-growing demand of vegan and vegetarian with a prominent success.
Additionally, there were also places for fries and desserts. La Croquetoneta would be in charge of offering side dishes, most in portions perfect to share. From typical Spanish croquetas in up to 5 different flavors on offer, to nuggets and fries, this place was the perfect addition to the already bustling burger spaces. Regarding desserts, the participation of Bercianitas ensured a sweet ending to the meals, selling muffins and their iconic home-made donuts.
More Than Just Food
But Burger Fest wasn’t just about food—it was a celebration of community and culture. The event was set up in Segovia’s picturesque old town, with long communal tables where festival-goers could sit together and enjoy their meals. The shared dining experience gave the festival a relaxed, friendly vibe, where friends joined and tried different proposals from the trucks. What’s more, drink stands provided a wide range of beverages from sodas, to beer and Tinto that were perfect to enjoy in such a pleasant environment, even if not alongside a burger.
Live music from a complete lineup of local bands and DJs added to the festive atmosphere, giving the event the feel of a street party. Moreover, the festival was entirely pet-friendly, with all areas encouraging attendees to enjoy delicious plates alongside their furry companions.
“I never thought we would have something this cool in Segovia”, “I thought the town had so little to offer, but I’m glad it proved me wrong!” were some of the thoughts from first year IE University students, who were eager to experience new activities in the city.
The success of Segovia’s first Burger Fest is a clear expression of the liveliness of the city and its effort to keep up with neighbors like the capital, Madrid while retaining its historical charm: Showing that Segovia could embrace modern food trends while still preserving its unique character.
For now, the streets have returned to their quieter, more traditional state, but the memory of that burger-filled weekend lingers. Segovia’s Burger Fest was more than just a food event—it was a sign of the city’s openness to change and a celebration of the simple joys of sharing good food with good company.
If you missed it this year, don’t worry—there’s always next time. And with the success of this inaugural event, you can bet the next Burger Fest in Segovia will be even bigger and better!
