On Sunday, November 17th, the women’s football team played a stressful and tiring game. With only one substitute, the team finished the first half with a score of 0-0. Although, they came back with high expectations for the second half. However, exhaustion played against them and for the opponent to score the first goal only a few seconds after the whistle blow. The opponent scored their second goal a few minutes later, but the IE team counter-attacked and Maura scored our first goal. Towards the end of the game, the opponent scored their third goal and the game ended with a final score of 3-1. The second half of the game was an honest fight. To the viewers, it seemed like the IE team was fighting for the win against their opponent Malahierva. Malahierva was everything but a Fairplay team. In other words, they played a dirty game.
According to the coach, there was a balance between both teams. The final result could have gone either way. The woman of the match was Tina, a Norwegian girl that only joined the team a couple of weeks ago. She is the official goalkeeper and her presence was noticed during the game.
In the past few weeks, the team has had to deal with a new problem: attendance and commitment. For different reasons, only a few girls could attend training and it strongly affected the team performance as a whole. Perhaps the arrival of the cold weather has affected the motivation of the team overall to train? Either way, Football is a collective sport, therefore when one player is missing, it affects the whole team. However, the team captains are working hard to resolve this new emerging issue and their next goal is to organize a team dinner to give the opportunity to Tina to bond with the rest of the team. They believe that having a nice environment during training will keep the team members committed and the wanted win realistic.
