Welcome to Segovia! Getting started with university in a new city may feel overwhelming, but no need to stress! You will soon find that Segovia will be home to some of your greatest memories. Here is a guide to get you started not just in our historic campus, but to enjoy Segovia to its fullest potential.
Get to Know the City
You have, most likely, heard this before. From the Celtics, Romans, Moors, to Isabel la Católica, the Segovian city walls are full of history. Reserve a free tour of the city with Paraguas Rojos and explore!
Even if you are not a fan of history, the tour will take you to secret spots that you may not have known otherwise. Explore bars, restaurants, and shops in the old town – have a drink at plaza to end the night. It’s a fun activity to do with friends, and a great way to enjoy the warm weather!
Enjoy Segovia’s Nature
One of Segovia’s greatest qualities is that it’s completely surrounded by nature. There are parks everywhere in the city, walking paths that take you along the outskirts, demonstrating beautiful views of the neighbouring mountains.
Take advantage of the beautiful weather and the long summer days. Segovia gets cold during the winter months. Although the snowy peaks add character to the old city, nothing beats an afternoon spent in the hills or by the river next to the IE Creativity Center in Casa de La Moneda.
If you want to learn more and are interested, make sure to check out the IE Segovia Hiking Club or the Climbing Club!
Get Involved in the Community
Perhaps the best way to experience IE in Segovia is by participating in events and clubs. Campus life has a variety of clubs for everyone ranging from cultural societies, sports, community, and more! Even if you don’t find something that suits you you can create your own club.
If clubs aren’t your thing – watchout for on campus events. Join talks with professionals in their fields, networking events, the Global Village, Music Club concerts, and more! It’s a beautiful time to interact with the IE community and get to meet people that share your interest.
Make sure to check out IE Connects to find out more about clubs and campus events!
Focus on Your Studies
Starting university is an exciting time, there are so many new things that it’s easy to get distracted from one’s end goal. You may feel stressed and anxious, most classes are more demanding than high school – but you are not alone!
Getting organised is the best way to start: check out all your classes (tip! Star them on blackboard so they appear first on your course list). Make sure to read the syllabus carefully and take note of when important assignments are due, checking your calendar is key!
Don’t be afraid to ask for help, some classes are difficult and it’s better to tackle the problems rather than setting them aside for when exams come around.
Last but not least, enjoy your first year! Don’t let yourself get tired of Segovia’s small-town charm, because you will miss it once it’s time to move to Madrid. This is a time to explore and find yourself in a new place, it’s the moment to learn from mistakes and keep growing. There is no better place to start than Segovia.
